How and Why Do Mediums Do It?
How and Why Do Mediums Do It?
by Raven Duclos
For the lay person, people with mediumistic abilities are amazing, awe inspiring and scary (sometimes), or so I've heard. Not true. There are many mediums who feel just as normal as everyone else. They have bill issues, child issues, emotional issues, etc. The one thing that sets them apart is that they were born with a talent. Everyone has at least one ability that they excel in. Some are concert pianists, some Olympians and yes some are psychic mediums.
Much like any talent, mediumship varies from person to person as to the intensity and extent they are able to utilize their gifts. Some are able to give highly detailed and highly accurate information while others get one or two things and are vague. Even with an exceptional medium sessions vary according to the strength of the spirit in question. Uncle Marty may come in very strong with detailed information while Aunt Joan may be like pulling teeth to get information from her. Liken this to working with people. Some are talkative and some aren't. Mediums have to deal with all types of spirit energy to give you, our clients the best and most healing reading possible.
The "how" of it, I believe, is different for everyone, but the mechanics of tapping into spirit are the same. I know that for myself and a few other mediums I have the honor of knowing, spirits come to where we are. That is why we can conduct sessions from where we are to anywhere in the world. Once we have the spirit with us, then the fun begins. What actually happens is a mediums energy or spirit begins to vibrate at a higher level to match that of the spirit we are tapping into. (Whenever you are in the astral or tapping into spirit your energy automatically begins to vibrate faster this makes communication possible) This is why, sometimes, when you are in a session with a medium the room will get very hot. This is especially true when reading one person after another as in group or party sessions. From this point information begins to flow and the medium will pick up auditory, visual and sensory phenomena from spirit. They should be able to tell you what the person looks like in detail, manner of death, memories and key things that only you and the spirit know. There may be information given to you or spirits may come forward that you don't know or understand until a later date. This is all normal. The "how" of it is pretty straightforward, but the "why" of it is the key.
When a person chooses to use their medium abilities to help others personal gain IS NOT at the forefront. The desire comes from the intense need to help people and spirits in pain. I know we don't like to think of our loved ones as hurting, and physically they don't, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if you are hurting and need closure brother Bill or sister Mary do too. Often times people think of spirits as dead, gone, without feeling or consciousness. That is totally wrong. Our loved ones on the other side desperately need closure as much as we do. They are still the same people, although they have gained understanding, love and enlightenment in some cases. Much of this need depends on the manner of death and circumstances of life. In cases of quick deaths there is usually a need for them to give and receive the closure they didn't have time for or to give the messages to people they wish to touch. For longer illness and such the intensity is no less. The spirit may have a need to thank those who helped them or acknowledge those who took care of their family during their illness or it may be just to say they are alright. For a medium these are some of the most powerful and healing sessions imaginable and once they have experienced this connection between a spirit and loved one, there is no going back. The need to help is instinctual and can at times be overwhelming in a good way.
There are times when spirits can be a royal pain as well, such as when your standing outside a grocery store and the person next to you has an absentee father who has crossed and he needs to talk to her. Sometimes they awaken you at all ours of the night and sometimes they just pop in at the most inopportune times. Yes this can be a bother, but it is also what makes it a joy. Spirits are intense, funny and sarcastic and yes, sometimes angry. They make light of the most solemn of occasions and can be blissfully understanding. The point is, what other job can you do that will give you an opportunity to talk, joke, commiserate and help so many souls both in the physical and not? None. This is why we love what we do and this is why we will continue to do it.
Remember that if you want an awesome medium session be open to what they are telling you. You don't have to be a believer, healthy skepticism is a good thing, but don't be shut down or closed off. The spirits know this and even though they may want to talk to you, they wont. Your energy will also set your reader off and that will also disrupt what could be the most important reading of your life. Again, be open, enjoy and have questions ready because any reader worth their salt will allow you to ask the questions you need for the closure both you and your loved ones deserve.
